Aki Hinomiya is a student of Enchantress Academy, a world-renowned boarding school for girls who show promising talent in elemental magic and summoning. Aki is keeping a secret, however: her real name is Akira, and she's actually a boy!

Akira conned his way into the Academy in his quest to follow in his mother's footsteps and become one of the strongest fire mages in the world, while also seeking out clues to solve the mystery of her disappearance. While at the school, Akira lives as "Aki," dressing in girls' clothing fulltime and behaving in his best estimation of feminine (even if he's not naturally that good at it, making him something of a tomboy with a strangely cutesy affect).

In a world where elemental and summoning magic is commonplace but its most skilled users are almost exclusively women, a baby boy named Akira was born to into the reclusive Hinomiya clan of famously talented and powerful fire mages, rumored to have descended from Suzaku itself. His mother was a well-known sorceress and among the best fire wielders ever known, and from a young age Akira also displayed promise in the magical arts. Although Akira's mother was determined to train him herself, as magic schools for coeds and boys are notoriously subpar in their world, she unfortunately disappeared during a dangerous quest when Akira was only 10 years old.

At age 13, against the wishes of his remaining family, Akira also disappeared... ostensibly on a mission to find out what became of his mother. What his family didn't know was that Akira's first step in that journey was, in fact, to forge his way into acceptance into the Enchantress Academy: the finest magic school in the land and his mother's alma mater... and also an all-girls boarding school!

For the past two and a half years, Akira has lived as "Aki," an average-at-best (or so she appears!) student of elemental magic. Aki genuinely tries to keep out of trouble and avoid attracting too much attention to herself, but sometimes she just can't help herself...

ENFP-A

Akira's driving traits are his determination and his idealism: his overarching goal is to carry on his mother's name and fame, and nothing - not even the gender norms of his world - is going to stop him. Akira idolizes his mother to the point where he wants to emulate everything about her, and as far as he's concerned, a few years of skirts and makeup is a small price to pay for the same education that made her the powerful and compassionate sorceress that she was. Though he would never say it aloud, Akira actually carries a lot of trauma from her sudden disappearance, and in part his determination to follow in her footsteps is a desperate effort to find any clue at all as to what became of her.

Desperation aside, he is naturally an enthusiastic and intensely curious boy, with a healthy dash of independence which often has him striking out on his own to investigate this or that, or pursue his own personal agendas - for example, leaving his family without a word. These days, he still thinks nothing of sneaking away from classmates or teammates on missions of his own, and he is reckless enough to trust in his own strength and abilities to keep him safe (or at least alive) even in dangerous situations and territories.

Akira's pride often prevents him from asking for help or showing his fear, except to a very trusted few. He will boast and bluff until the bitter end, a true believer in 'fake it until you make it.' This is especially true in his younger years at the academy, when he has yet to truly attain mastery over his incredible innate talent for magic. Unfortunately, he knows he's powerful and that's enough to make him brash and overconfident. To Akira's credit, he is an extremely hard worker and he learns quickly from his mistakes - he should just exercise a lot more caution about making them in the first place!

Classmates at the academy will say that Aki is fun and friendly enough, but a bit of an awkward duck and definitely a tomboy. Akira may have a pretty face, but he has little interest in mastering 'feminine' mannerisms. Observers may note that he may stand and sit with his legs apart, gesture aggressively, run and jump without regard for the wind in his skirts, and he exercises little control over the volume of his voice or his facial expressions. At the same time, Akira also mindfully mimics and employs stereotypically 'cutesy' movements often seen among his peers: head tilts, pressing his fingertips together, and so on. He is an observant boy, so after so many years of living among the girls, it's hard not to pick up some habits...

All of his pent-up energy may make him fidget and sweat in tense moments. Aki could be said to have a stereotypically firey personality, but his ire rarely lasts long. One way to get him going is to insult his mother or family name in any way. His friends are few and far between, as his secret makes it difficult for him to trust and grow close to anyone, and having left his entire family behind sometimes makes him very lonely and desperate for meaningful companionship. If and when he does grow close to someone, he can become fiercely protective of them.

Fire manipulation: Aki can easily generate a very intense flame and is fairly proficient at wielding it in the form of fire balls, flame strikes, and whirlwinds of fire. In his younger years, however, it is often difficult for him to access and control his full power.

Phoenix Fire: Low-level self-healing. (Actually, Aki is functionally immortal, but he doesn't know that yet!)

Fireproof: With a touch, Aki can render anything - clothing, items, other people - impervious to extreme heat and fire for as long as he maintains physical contact.

Resistance to cold: He's self-warming!

Resistance to heat: Heat, fire, and blazing sunlight all amplify his innate elemental power.

Weakness to water: Pokemon rules apply: rainy and wet environments weaken his power. Aki is currently developing his skills with a sword to counteract this vulnerability.
